Dramatic sea cliffs, T-Rex headlands, manta ray encounters, and raw island beauty just 45 minutes by fast boat from Bali.
Plan Your Nusa Penida TripNusa Penida is a rugged limestone island 30 minutes by fast boat from Bali, famous for the T-Rex-shaped Kelingking Beach, manta ray snorkelling at Crystal Bay, and some of Indonesia's most dramatic sea cliffs. It is best visited as a day trip or short overnight stay.
Nusa Penida is a limestone island roughly 20 kilometers southeast of mainland Bali, separated by the deep Badung Strait. At 202 square kilometers, it is the largest of the three Nusa islands (alongside Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan). The island's dramatic topography — towering sea cliffs, hidden coves, and underwater drop-offs — makes it one of the most photogenic destinations in Indonesia.
The iconic Kelingking Beach, with its T-Rex-shaped headland plunging into turquoise waters, has become one of the most photographed spots in Bali. The steep 400-step staircase down to the beach is challenging but rewards with pristine white sand and powerful waves. Angel's Billabong, a natural infinity pool carved into the cliff edge, and the adjacent Broken Beach, a circular cove with a natural rock arch, are equally dramatic.
Below the surface, Nusa Penida is a marine wonderland. Crystal Bay is one of the most reliable sites in the world to encounter oceanic manta rays, with wingspans reaching 5 meters. The waters around Manta Point attract these gentle giants year-round, and the Bali Sea's nutrient-rich upwellings also bring mola mola (ocean sunfish) between July and October. The island was designated as a Marine Protected Area in 2014.
Nusa Penida is best visited as a day trip from Bali (fast boats depart from Sanur in 30-45 minutes) or with one or two overnight stays for a more relaxed pace. Roads on the island are rough and steep in places, making a local driver essential. The island suits adventurous travelers, snorkeling enthusiasts, and photographers looking for Bali's most dramatic landscapes.

Expert logistics for an island that requires local knowledge
We book reliable fast boat operators from Sanur with safety records we trust. No overcrowded boats, no surprise cancellations — your crossing is confirmed and comfortable.
Nusa Penida's attractions are spread across the island on rough roads. We plan routes that minimize backtracking so you see Kelingking, Angel's Billabong, and Crystal Bay in one efficient day.
Our snorkeling guides know exactly where manta rays congregate by season and tide. We use small group sizes and sustainable practices approved by the Marine Protected Area authority.
The stairs at Kelingking are steep, currents at Angel's Billabong can be dangerous at high tide, and island roads are challenging. We brief every guest on conditions and adjust plans based on weather.
