Paddle through lush jungle gorges, past ancient stone carvings and cascading waterfalls on Bali's two premier rivers. Choose the gentle Ayung for families or the wild Telaga Waja for thrills.
Book a Rafting TripBali offers two premier rafting rivers: the scenic, family-friendly Ayung near Ubud and the thrilling Class III-IV Telaga Waja with a dramatic waterfall finale. Bali Malayali pairs you with top-rated operators, includes all gear and lunch, and recommends the right river for your group.
Bali offers two distinct white water rafting experiences, each with its own character and appeal. The Ayung River, flowing through a deep jungle gorge near Ubud, provides a scenic and family-friendly ride with Class II rapids that are exciting enough to thrill beginners without being intimidating. The Telaga Waja River in East Bali delivers a more adrenaline-fuelled experience with Class III to IV rapids, steeper drops, and a dramatic 4-metre waterfall finale.
The Ayung River is Bali's most popular rafting destination, running approximately 12 kilometres through a gorge lined with towering jungle, ancient rock carvings, and small waterfalls tumbling down the canyon walls. The 2-hour paddle passes through 33 sets of rapids that create splashy fun without serious difficulty. The river drops gently, giving plenty of calm stretches to absorb the scenery. This route is suitable for children aged 5 and above, making it one of Bali's best family adventure activities.
The Telaga Waja River near Karangasem in East Bali is for those seeking genuine white water excitement. The 16-kilometre course features 22 rapids rated Class III to IV, with fast-flowing water, tight turns through rock channels, and a dramatic finish over a 4-metre dam drop. Paddlers get thoroughly soaked and the adrenaline runs high. The minimum age is typically 10 to 12 years, and a reasonable level of fitness is recommended. The backdrop of Mount Agung towering above the river valley adds to the dramatic setting.
Both rafting experiences include hotel pickup and drop-off, safety equipment (helmet, life jacket, paddle), a professional river guide in each raft, and a buffet lunch at the finish point. The Ayung trips typically depart in the morning between 8 and 10 AM, while Telaga Waja departures are slightly earlier. Booking through a reputable operator is important as it ensures well-maintained equipment, experienced guides, and proper insurance coverage.
