ATV riding has become one of Bali's most popular adventure activities, offering an exhilarating way to explore the island's interior landscapes that are inaccessible by car. Trails wind through terraced rice paddies, thick tropical jungle, bamboo forests, river crossings, and dramatic gorge tracks carved out of volcanic rock. The activity requires no prior experience, as all operators provide a safety briefing and the automatic-transmission quads are straightforward to handle.

The Ubud area offers the most scenic ATV trails on the island. Routes near Tegallalang take riders through working rice paddies with stunning valley views before descending into forested river valleys. The Gorge Track near Payangan is the most thrilling option, threading through a narrow river canyon with waterfalls, caves, and rock formations. This route involves some river crossings and steep gradients, making it better suited to those who want an adrenaline rush.

Most ATV operators offer both single and tandem (two-person) quad bikes, making the activity accessible to couples and families. Children as young as 7 can ride as passengers on tandem quads, while solo riders must typically be at least 16 years old. The rides last 1 to 2 hours depending on the trail, with some operators offering extended half-day adventures that combine ATV riding with waterfall visits or lunch at a traditional village.

Expect to get muddy, especially during the wet season from November to March when trails are at their most challenging and fun. All operators provide helmets, boots, and rain ponchos. Wear clothes you do not mind getting dirty, and bring a change of clothing. Most packages include hotel pickup and drop-off, a safety briefing, the ride itself, showering facilities, and a light meal or refreshments afterward.
